What is Anchored?

  • Anchored is a free smartphone app.
  • Anchored was designed by mental health experts, including psychiatrists and clinical psychologists.
  • Anchored aims to improve mental health, reduce stress, and increase wellbeing in the Australian working population
  • Anchored includes a 30-day program of short evidence-based exercises, centred around mindfulness, behavioural activation, and cognitive-behavioural therapy.
  • Beginning in March 2020, researchers at the Black Dog Institute will be testing Anchored in a randomised controlled trial.

How can I get involved?

  • To be eligible, you need to be over 18, reside in Australia, own a smartphone, understand English, be currently employed and experiencing at least moderate stress.
  • You will be randomly allocated to either receive the Anchored app, or online psychoeducational resources, for 30 days (after a 6-month delay, those given online resources will also receive the app).

What information is being collected?

  • Before the trial, you will be asked basic demographic and lifestyle questions, along with questions about stress, illness, mental health, wellness and work performance. You will be asked these questions again after 30 days, 3 months and 6 months. The app and the Anchored website will also collect usage data.
  • All data is kept strictly confidential.

What’s in it for me?

  • Free access to the Anchored app (either immediately or after a 6-month delay) and/or online psychoeducational resources.
  • Your participation in this study will inform future research aimed at improving the health of workers in Australia.
  • For each follow-up questionnaire you complete, you will go into the draw to win a $200, $300, or $500 gift card.
